It's 4:00 a.m. and instead of sleeping I'm wide awake and reflecting on how grateful I am. My eyes have been opened to what's really going on in the world, and I can't help but share this. Part of me wants to cry because after four hot and sweaty nights I got to sleep in AC. I was able to wash my clothes, clean my home, put my place back to how it was and house my family. They are still out of power, but knowing that one of us has power and we can now eat, take a hot shower, and cool off later in the day means a lot to me. Hurricane Irma made A LOT of distruction, but the rebuild is going to be better then what we had before. All I can think about is Job (in the Bible). How he lost everything (family included), but never gave up on God and the rebuild was beautiful. All I see is a state that's often DIVIDED because of racial stereotypes and mindsets coming together to rebuild and help each other. Some people are literally starting over. Lost homes. Lost jobs. Lost income. And then there's the 7-year old girl that died in her home from the generator carbon monoxide poisoning. When I saw this on the news my heart broke 😞
Let Hurricane Irma teach you a few things. If you can't think of any, here are some:
1. Minimalism - We really don't need more than half of the stuff we have. If you have stuff stored away that you never use or haven't used in over 6 months DONATE IT
or TRASH IT. If you can sell it - good for you.
2. Value - Materials things are just that. When we take our last breath NONE OF IT goes with us. So think about how you value certain things.
3. Patience - Lord knows this was hard for me with no AC & no power. This element is a big one. It can really be a major asset if you master it.
4. Love Yourself - I NEVER post pictures of me looking a hot mess on social media. Why? Because social media is about the "highlight reel" and making yourself LOOK PERFECT. That one photo taught me a lot! While I do love me, I needed to BE MYSELF. All of these rules about looking a certain way stifles you.
Posting that photo also helped me to realize how strong and smart I was! Still able to run my business with no power and AC! Yes, I would sit in my car so
