Donatella Versace's tribute to her brother Gianni has shaken the world of fashion because of the original supermodels' appearance. But, her tribute goes beyond just these models, so let's talk about the extent of it - the collection.

Versace's collection this year gracefully mimicked Gianni's Spring Summer '91, Fall '91, and Spring '92 designs. The Spring Summer '18 collections showed use of the same mustard yellow animal print, the medusa medallion logo and the baroque patterns - all draped in yellow, gold and black (naturally). However, the most nostalgic look to which Donatella attributed her collection, was Gianni's use of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean in Andy Warhol pop art . The fashion house states that by using these images, "Gianni Versace broke the barriers between pop art and contemporary fashion with the Spring/Summer 1991 collection when Naomi Campbell stormed the catwalk in a jewel-embellished printed evening dress featuring Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe and James Dean portraits, and forever of making the presence of art in fashion." A further homage to the powerhouse was Donatella's use of the Vogue prints from Gianni Versace’s SS ’91 collection which represented the impact the magazine has on our society, culture, and vision.

The 90s supermodels were the catalyst Gianni used to convey these messages, which is why their appearance during the tribute made Donatella's and Versace's message not only sentimental but powerful. The images below show the extent of the tribute.
