Recently my naturopathic Dr. asked me why I exercise. This is a totally legit question. Had she asked me this 12 years ago my answer (although I probably would not have admitted it out loud) would have been: because I'm afraid that if I take a break or slow down, I'll get fat; I hate my body; I'm afraid that I won't be me any longer; I'm afraid I won't be anything special; I'm afraid that this is all I'm good at...that this is all I am.

Yup, a totally distorted mindset and a mental health issue, to be sure. .

Well, A LOT has changed since then (tons of reading, listening, learning and daily effort) and my answer now is: because I love my body, because I appreciate what my body can do, because running opens my connection with the Universe, because being in nature feeds my soul, because I like how I feel when I'm strong, because I want to take care of this vessel, because I feel energized and empowered from my workouts...but the thing is, I no longer NEED to get workouts and runs in every day. I'm perfectly happy to take a rest day or to go camping with the fam jam for a week, stay present and never even see a dumbbell. Yes, I CAN DO BALANCE!!! The tricky, deceiving thing about exercise is that it is generally regarded as healthy. But unless you are very close to someone and notice the subtleties of obsession, it's hard to distinguish between a healthy habit and an obsessive compulsion. For me, I didn't even recognize it in myself until I was waaaay too deep. Fitness obsession is not glamorous. There is a fine line between commitment and obsession...it comes down to MINDSET. .

If you're noticing obsession in your exercise routine and thoughts, please, please know that obsession is not sustainable forever and could result in you seriously damaging your body. It took me an injury that prevented me from running for a COUPLE YEARS before I realized that changes had to be made. .

AND if you have thoughts like I did, that you didn't have much else going for you, know that you are sooooo much more than your body. Become more open to exploring that and you'll surprise yourself💜. .

That is a late post but here we go!
I ran a marathon today. I got to meet wonderful @_graywilson and @sandrameetsworld - it was lovely to meet you guys! I had the best cheer squad ever- thank to @zarafrizell @thegreatgreenteadrinker and @sport_rehabber ✨. I really appreciated having you there guys - you were the best thing that could have happened to me today at mile 18!
Also, @_graywilson - I will forever remember how you got me vegan food! And @sandrameetsworld - if you are up for Disney half next year - I am game 💁🏼. Also, thank you for al the messages - I will reply to all of them tomorrow!

Forgive me, runners it's been 2 days since my last #run - i made the conscious decision to end my #runstreak on the last day of summer - was so looking forward to running in fall weather - boy did I get screwed - high 80's today with muggy and BUGGY air.  The pic on the top right shows how many bugs there were - that was just one swarm and I ran through so many that they drowned on my sweaty skin - screw you Mother Nature - so glad to be back at it for a #sundayrunday  #sweatmakesmesparkle #motherrunner #runalways #runhappy #challengeville #oldguyrunningtinman #fallweathermya**
