As I write this post I'm struck by how much strength and courage it actually takes to be a yoga teacher. To stand up in front of a group of students and speak. To not only cue poses but also put your spiritual beliefs out there and to risk judgement every single time you do. I'm writing another "act as if" post because today I taught at a studio I very rarely teach at. I LOVED it, but again felt the tiny twinge of anxiety and self-doubt walking into the studio and standing in front of students who do not know who I am. Read my post from yesterday for more info and advice on handling this. For today my advice is to pause and celebrate YOU 🎉 🎈🙌🏻🙏🏻Remember how awesome you are for embarking on this journey. For being vulnerable and stepping forth into a pool of what seems now like 10,000,000,000 yoga instructors. Believe that as many teachers as there may be there is a space for you and what you have to offer as well. Namaste... really.

Square vs open hip? To me both are correct. I really don't see every yoga pose as black or white but that's another story. So I tend to focus on one or the other depending on where I go with my flow. 👶🍭🍼 Day 1️⃣9️⃣ of #DontCallMeBaby with @cyogalab ➡️ #Twist in #ForearmBalance or Parsva #PinchaMayurasana 🍼🍭👶 I think this is a step up from yesterday’s pose because we’re focusing on a deeper spinal rotation today. Let’s find out: since the main action is that twist, one way to connect with it more, is to do Pincha with the hands laced. It’s also more challenging to balance on the edge of the forearms rather than the inner part and palms (makes us realize how useful and amazing the hands are!!). If you do this at the wall try to touch it minimally so you have a more accurate feeling of the struggle you’ll find in the middle of the room. Once you're upside down, project the legs up and squeeze them together to find that inner line of energy. Start to turn the torso, hips and legs without letting the shoulders or forearms move (aka, foundation remains steady!). Turn only to the point you’re not dumping into the lower back. Think of involving the whole spine in this movement, not just the lumbar part. Once you’ve found your edge, stay there, breathe a few times, and notice if there’s more room to go (normally there is, especially during the first few). Keep pushing away from the ground, aligning the shoulders on top of their elbows. Maintain the gaze steady (no cheating resting the forehead on the thumbs!) and return to a neutral position, reestablishing a good foundation (and breath), before doing the other side. Day 2️⃣ of #backtotraditionalhatha is Surya Namaskara ☀️. I personally make it a point to do these daily because my constitution (fiercely of Pitta Prakriti !) requires I express my gratitude regularly lest I might just melt into the earth on one hot day 😀. The origins of this practice however are not in traditional yoga but in the more  ancient Vedic worship of the sun. That's why it never finds mention in any traditional book of Yoga. And if you observe closely Surya Namaskara is simply a series of systematic steps to get you into and out of 'Ashtanga Namaskara' ~ a traditional form of prostration to a deity. That's why it's always done in the mornings, while facing East looking up to the rising sun. The timing, movement and breath are all critical for deriving maximum benefits ~ early sun rays impact our photo sensitive endocrine glands, the movements work by opening up our right and left nasal passages, this happens especially when we get the knees against our armpits and then we can breathe well from both sides, perfectly primed for asana practice. .

Meet Marianna Lopez😃Marianna will be leading the 💎Crystal Quartz Sound Healing during our upcoming September 15-17 Miami Florida retreat. Let’s learn a little bit about her. 
Music has always been a huge part of Marianna’s life but it wasn’t until a tragic event in her life that she discovered her passion of healing through music. She recollects, “In 2015 my brother, who was a musician, passed away suddenly and after this I wasn’t in the best place. My friend invited me to my first Sound Bowl meditation - she said it would help heal. So, there I was in this enormous yoga room laying down on my mat and questioning why I was there. Then I heard the first sounds. The vibrations took me away! The power of these bowls, the ability to pull at your heart strings and to take you on a beautiful journey, had me hooked and I have not looked back since. I don’t know if I play the bowls or they play me these days, but I can say without a doubt that you will never forget the experience.” Each sound bowl is tuned to one of the seven chakras, with the intention of aligning the bodies energy.
