Writing about fitness and health for companies based out of the city of go-go-go has its perks. Think: occasional free workout classes, sweat-gear, and a chance to talk to the latest and greatest trainers, athletes, and obstacle course racers. While it’d be untrue to say it’s my favorite part of my job, because TBH the writing itself is my favorite part of my job, I do love sliding into a pair of not-yet-launched-leggings, saddling up for a new-to-me HIIT-class, and finding my power one burpee, pushup, and wall-ball at a time. β€’β€’β€’
So when I got an email-invite for the launch of @secondskingear (Dick Sporting Goods new fitness brand) which was set to take place at one of New York’s hottest fitness studios @tonehouse I responded with an enthusiastic β€œyes”. β€’β€’β€’
I left the class with a new favorite fitness studio, this dope gear, and a photo as proof πŸ’ͺπŸΌπŸ“Έ

Today I'm throwing some thanks and throwing it back. This gem, was taken my first week of CrossFit back in February. My face says it all. I found my first few weeks of CrossFit frustrating, weird as fuck (what is a snatch and why should I care), and totally humbling. β€’β€’β€’
Outside of the bench press (lol) barbell movements have always been my weakness. I cherry pick(ed) worse than anyone (oh, there's snatching in the workout? Ill just do bicep and shoulder day on my own). But this past Monday I didn't ditch the WOD that had us finding our new squat snatch PR. And after 7 months, thanks to @lizadams21, I finally learned how to snatch. I finally felt that feeling @iz.levy always talks about when he talks about snatching: "when you snatch well, there's no other feeling like it". β€’β€’β€’
Today there was another snatching WOD: 5 rounds of 10 power snatch at 75#, 10 push press at 75#, and a 400 meter run. I wasn't planning on taking class, but I did and for a second time this week I felt that 'snatch-done-right' click. β€’β€’β€’
Today I understood why people CrossFit. And Im going to hold on to that feeling because maybe i'll feel it again during tomorrows WOD, or maybe it will take ankther 7 months for that post-WOD euphoria. But as I hold onto that feeling while moving forward, am going to remember what @lizadams21 told me: "There's no rush. CrossFit isn't going anywhere. Take it slow, learn, work hard, trust the process.You'll end up where you're supposed to be if you do that". β€’β€’β€’
Thank you Coach @lizadams21 for teaching me to snatch, putting up with my ego, and helping me realize that the identities "CrossFitter" and "athlete" can coexist. Your next batch of athletes are lucky to have you.
