On 9/11 over 350 search & rescue dogs were deployed at Ground Zero & the Pentagon . There's stories of two guide dogs who able to guide their blind owners down over 1490 steps & out of the towers before the collapse. It's believed the last of the 9/11 dogs died last June (last picture). If you research these heroes, every story is an amazing testament to how special they all were. 12 -18 hour shifts with no protective booties (they needed their nails for traction) & decontamination baths at the end of each shift. Dogs are so pure, I'm not sure what we humans have ever done to deserve them.

I don't know too many folks in Florida but here's an important info for an app that'll help folks communicate when cell towers go down. It acts like a walkie talkie. After download search for channel "Hurricane Irma PN"Lots of folks in Houston were rescued using this app. Be safe everyone ❤️

I'm really not feeling the Red Cross ever since the earthquakes in Haiti so, I've chosen other charities to focus on #houstonfoodbank is very grassroots @houstonhumane & @action4ifaw doing some great work. This bull mastiff is 120 pounds & they were able to get him the vet care he needed until his owners can come get him.

DOG RESCUED BY PHOTOGRAPHER
Tied to a pole, this dog looked on the verge of becoming a victim of Hurricane Harvey. She was soaked to the skin and apparently abandoned in an area where every human had fled before the storm.
Fortunately she was spotted by a photographer and reporter for DailyMail.com. Photographer Ruaridh Connellan rushed across the flood water, which was fortunately not dangerously deep, and untied the dog, who he has named Lucky.
Other animals were found on the property, including another dog, two cats and a pony. All are well and in good health, but will need proper care and attention soon.
Connellan has called the local animal control agency to report the abandoned animals, has fed them and plans on adopting Lucky if possible.
Right now, the authorities are understandably overwhelmed by the scale of the unfolding disaster.
Animal Justice Project's thoughts are with all affected by Hurricane Harvey. Stay safe!

I finally got see Tom Petty last night. I've see a lot of shows in my life but this man, his band & all those guitars goes down as the best I've ever seen. 40 years together (his drummer is the newcomer at 24 years) will make a band tight musically. But the most remarkable thing was the love Petty feels for his band & the love they feel right back. Just an incredible show 🤘🏼photo by Ryan

Happy Birthday Robert Plant 💙 "And yesterday I saw you standing by the river,
And weren't those tears that filled your eyes,
And all the fish that lay in dirty water dying,
Had they got you hypnotized?
And yesterday I saw you kissing tiny flowers,
But all that lives is born to die
And so I say to you that nothing really matters,
And all you do is stand and cry"

I enjoy guitarists who've been around for decades but somehow they fly under the radar. Guitarists like Mike Campbell. He really never wastes a note. He doesn't try to take over a song; just adding to it. His guitar playing in Breakdown is one of my favorites. I remember having the cassette tape of the Heartbreakers debut & my stereo could click to each song. I thought I hit the lotto being able to get to the song I wanted (track 2). Simpler times #tompettyandtheheartbreakers #mikecampbell

Southern Poverty Law Center tracks hate groups & hate crimes across the US & have put out some great resources if you're looking to become more informed. This one is 10 ways to fight hate. There's also a guide for kids still in college when confronted with nazis on campus. They have an interactive map of tracked hate groups in the US. The SPLC is another resource for your education.

I know violence may not be the best way to deal with this racism neo-Nazi bullshit but the rage I feel is palpable. I feel like the Bear Jew is a fantastic solution.

Pro tip: Having the much needed talks about racism in this country doesn't make you a race baiter. Black women were asking all the white ladies from the Women's March what we were going to do next. What are you (and me) willing to do? 🖤
"You're furthering the divide" shuts down necessary conversations about the truly horrific divisions in our society: Black women make 67 cents to a white man's dollar, unarmed kids get murdered by police, the life expectancy of a black trans woman is 35 years old, our schools are segregated, and torch-bearing white nationalists just terrorized a city.
When someone raises "divisiveness" as a rebuttal against acknowledgement of inequality, I ask, "So what are you doing to promote equality in a 'non-divisive' way?" They always respond, "I try to be a good person."
Well I don't think a good person is complicit in a system that oppresses minorities. I'm sure there were plenty of "good people" complicit in the Holocaust and slavery because they didn't want to ruffle any feathers.
Reminder to myself: White people NEED to talk to each other about racism. And not just to like-minded progressive friends on Twitter. Because divisiveness that leads to tension between you and your "good-hearted" racist aunt is tolerable, but divisiveness that leads to white nationalist marches is unconscionable.

I'm really talking to myself in this post. It's time, as I consider myself an ally, to step up. To confront the subtle racism I hear from co-workers & relatives. To donate more to socially aware organizations. To put my body in harms way to protect a person of color at future marches. I know I have not done nearly enough. By the way, anyone reading this who is a Nazi sympathizer, or thinks those who wielded torches last night, chanting "Heil, Blood & Soil & Jews Won't Replace Us" are patriots, you're fooling yourself.

I really love the word troubadour. Someone who puts poetry to music. I feel like Glen Campbell was a troubadour. If he can make it to 81 with all that fast livin, maybe there's hope for the rest of us. Rest In Peace sir

-Robert Mitchum's 100th birthday.- The other one of my two favourite Mitchum films is the intense 1962 thriller Cape Fear. This film has got everything, suspense, amazing soundtrack, great story and stellar performances, especially from Mitchum. It is perfect from beginning to end! The Max Cady character is deliciously evil and only Mitchum could have played him.
I Also think, This film as a great one to introduce to someone who is not really in to 'classic' films.
Happy birthday Robert 🎂

Life - Summer 1969 "Long hair & long legs" ・・・
This image ran on the cover of the Aug. 22, 1969 issue of LIFE - THAT YOUNG NEW YORK LOOK. According to LIFE, "New York City is a costume party for the young this summer, a party that is taking place outdoors, on the streets and in the parks. Long hair, long legs. The party is not always elegant, but it is completely alive." (Vernon Merritt III—The LIFE Picture Collection/Getty Images) #fashionfriday #1960s #NYC
