When I was young I read Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin. I was infuriated by it. I’d think to myself what I would’ve done had I lived during slavery. When I took a class on the Holocaust I wanted to believe I would have helped Jews escape or hide them. I’d have helped in some capacity. (I soooo would have looooved to have been a spy) The other day I saw a tweet that read “If you wondered what you would’ve done during slavery, the Holocaust or the civil rights movement…you’re doing it now.” That resonated with me so hard. Wtf am I doing? I’m not protesting, shit I’m not even using my social media. I understand we live in completely different times but I could and should do more and I encourage you to as well.
I quite frankly don’t have any answers. But, if you’re comparing the KKK to the BLM (or Nazism, fascism, white nationalism to any opposing group) movement I vehemently suggest you read about both. Write me a five page, double spaced, times new roman font, 1 inch margins, compare and contract research paper. I prefer Chicago Style Manuel.
