⁉️WHAT ARE MACROS⁉️

I'm sure the majority of you have heard people talk about counting their macros, or if it fits your macros (IIFYM) at some point or another. While it may seem like a basic principle to those in the body building world, to those less versed in the world of nutrition it may sound a bit confusing.

Put simply,  macros are short for macronutrients, which makes up the majority of the food we consume. The three main macronutrients are carbs, proteins, and fats, all of which have a caloric value associated with them.

Carbs - 4 calories per gram
Protein - 4 calories per gram
Fats - 9 calories per gram

When people talk about counting their macros, often times what they're tracking is the number of calories they are consuming in a day based off of the number of carbs, fats, and proteins they've eaten.

When using this dieting method, people can be much more flexible in their food choices as long as they meet their daily macro requirements.
.
While I don't necessarily condone the whole "pizza and pop tarts for breakfast because it fits my macros" approach, learning to count and track your macronutrient intake is a great tool if you ever want to mix in different foods and add variety into your diet.

Yesterday was a baseline day. I just did my usual food thang and recorded it. As a dietitian, at this point I balance my macros intuitively, which you can see by the top figure. Met my goals almost exactly. The bottom figure shows what percentage of my total Kcals was consumed at each meal. No surprise for me: I know I'm a dinner-heavy consumer ('Merica, amiright?). I'd like to flip that. Not sure how, though, yet. In the past I've noticed that a large breakfast for me doesn't necessarily mean a smaller dinner; it just means more Kcals throughout the day. But I've never tried to consciously invert my intake, so I may try that. I did notice that I am not a snacker, which is good. I used to be a mad snacker, but that ended not too long ago when I initially cut out flour and sugar, and I don't miss it. I like to eat when my brain is busy - I think it is an adaptation I developed as a way to stem anxiety, but I guess I don't really do that anymore. Nice. I'm liking My Fitness Pal. Still as user-friendly as I remember. On to the next day. And for those of you who are curious, I blew my Kcal goal by 300. Because butter. Shocking, I know. 😁

❌DIPS✅

When performing DIPS for a more tricep dominant movement ensure that you avoid over-dipping as it tends to put more stress on your shoulders and you're losing some of the tension on the tricep once your shoulders drop below your elbow and you'll be getting less tricep activation.
.
This can also overtime manifest shoulder issues. Keep your shoulders healthy and perform them with more effectively by not over-dipping or dropping your shoulder below your elbow. Descend until they are at a 90 degree angle, roughly.
.
Make sure that you're keeping your core engaged and your scapula retracted throughout the entirety of the movement while keeping your head in a neutral position for more effectiveness and efficiency of the movement.

My Client @keileejane absolutely killing her workouts! She's working towards the Miss Louisiana Pageant in late October! This day was a back focused workout to really build a beautiful, strong upper body and accentuate her tiny waist! I've never competed in a beauty pageant but we can relate with finding the best posing and positions that show off your best angles to the judges! I highly recommend if you want a "tiny waist" then build up the muscles in your shoulders and back as well as your glutes and thighs to make your waist look tinier than it is! Doing hammer Strength iso-lateral movements will additionally help to ensure you are lifting or pulling the same amount of weight evenly on both sides instead of using your dominant side to push a little more of the weight than you intended. Apple-spiced oatmeal muffins with some almond butter caramel on top!

These babies are completely flour free!
(Just oats, bananas, apples, spices a drop of agave, 2 farm fresh eggs from #silvertonfarms and a scoop of @plantfusion protein powder!)
I also added some #Maca for added flavor and nutrients! 
The almond butter caramel is simply almond butter, maple syrup, coconut oil and vanilla!
 These are high in protein and low in fat and sugar. 
Great on-the-go breakfast or an in-between meal snack!

PREMIO Savory Chicken Sausage: 17g Protein // 1g Carbs // 7g Fat // 135 Calories (per link)

These chicken sausages tasted more on the realm of pork sausage than the Sausages by Amylu ones (16g pro, 4g carb, 6g fat; previously reviewed) while still tasting subtly enough like chicken sausage. There was a hickory, grilled taste, and I could taste hints of maple in it, as well. It made me feel as though I was eating an actual breakfast sausage. It was a classic chicken sausage. Nothing stood out to make it spectacular. Personally, the other ones are worth the 3g extra carbs. But it was certainly still delicious. I bought these at Costco.

These chicken sausages tasted more on the realm of pork sausage than the Sausages by Amylu ones (16g pro, 4g carb, 6g fat; previously reviewed) while still tasting subtly enough like chicken sausage. There was a hickory, grilled taste, and I could taste hints of maple in it, as well. It made me feel as though I was eating an actual breakfast sausage. It was a classic chicken sausage. Nothing stood out to make it spectacular. Personally, the other ones are worth the 3g extra carbs. But it was certainly still delicious. I bought these at Costco.

2 bananas. 
2 whole eggs. 
2 egg whites. 
1.5 dl oat. 
Cinnamon. 
Baking powder. 
Toppings berries. 
Cal: 600. 
Carbs: 87. 
Fat: 15. 
Protein: 30. 
Less carbs just skip/cut down on the oats 😊

Day 9 - breakfast was a LOT of oatmeal and egg scramble but it kept me full so I will keep gagging it down. I liked my oatmeal much better when instead of eggs as a protein I used sunbutter. My salads at lunch are becoming more triumphant. Dinner was grilled shrimp and veggies. We used @oldbay_seasoning for the shrimp (classic seasonsing) and @Wildtree tzatziki for the veggies. Yum. Yum. I am excited to learn which #Wildtree products to use as just a seasoning to spice up our dinners. I am hoping in a month this meal plan will be second nature and i can use some of the #freezermeals we love. My coach checked in on me to see how my hunger was going - didn't feel as hungry as in previous days so her suggestions are working. Also had the introduction call with my personal trainer.
